Why Use Parenting KI?
Parenting KI was first established in 2004 by a group of volunteers and service providers who recognised the lack of services to meet parents and their families’ needs across Kangaroo Island.
Currently, Parenting KI is funded by the Department of Social Services and is a ‘Children and Parenting Support’ activity under the Families and Children Program, until June 2026.
The children and Parenting funding is for early intervention and prevention services and resources that are aimed at improving children’s development and wellbeing and supporting the capacity of those in a parenting role.
The purpose of the grant is ‘to strengthen relationships, support family and community functioning, and reduce the cost of family breakdown’.
Parenting KI supports playgroups and other child focused activities for children from birth the 18 years, across the Kangaroo Island and can provide links between families and both local and mainland support services.
Workshops about parenting are scheduled as needed and are conducted in collaboration with other service providers.
Parenting KI also provides a home visiting service to families who are isolated or unable to access other sessions or services. Families and service providers are able to access the many resources, toys and equipment that Parenting KI has available to borrow.
Kangaroo Island Children’s Services is our sponsoring body and provides professional support, resources and governance for the program.
